Our anniversary weekend started off with a visit from Stinky, bearing lovely flowers!! The arrangement was so beautiful, and accompanied our dinner perfectly. We had intended to go to Hamptin Beach for one last weekend before the fall, but there were a few obstacles. One, someone else was already staying at the cottage (Todd's brother) and two, walking around would be sort of difficult with my sore, inflamed knee. Stinky reminded me that ibuprofen is my friend, and I have been dosing since seeing her on Saturday morning, and yes, the swelling has gone down considerably and I have a lot more mobility. So we started the evening off with a bottle of champagne
and a selection of cheeses. We have been saving this bottle since we visited the Veuve Cliquot champagne house in Reims, France three years ago. The champagne is a variety that is sold only in Italy....and at the champagne house. It is slightly oakier than the Veuve Cliquot sold to the U.S. It paired wonderfully with a Mahon and a Manchego cheese from Spain, and
Cahill's Irish Cheddar Porter.
The Irish Cheddar is designed to pair with Guinness stout, but we found it went nicely with our champagne nevertheless. We moved on to the next course, dry aged beef tenderloin purchased from Whole Foods and oven fries with a side salad.
Since it was tropicalstorming outside, we pulled out our cast iron grill pan, seasoned up our tenderloins, oiled it up right nice and started the grilling. Our steaks came out perfectly cooked and perfectly seasoned. We finished off the evening with some cake from Whole Foods....our wedding cake got eaten MONTHS ago...it was way too delicious to resist!!

You know me-I loved reading about the food. Things in the kitchen must be getting back to normal if you were able to cook and eat in your dining room. I hated to hear about your fall-as adults we don't fall often and it hurt a lot when we do!
